Hey. Ive posted before, but Ive learnt more since then. I was born in May 1991, and was named after a Swiss cousin Marliss. My father thought it looked better with an "e". There is also the variation of Marlyse...So far Ive met 2 other Marlise's. One was born right after me, bout the 15-18 of May in the same hospital, and her parents thought I had a pretty name..so there she gets it..Ive actually met her..I met her abour 4 years ago at a rodeo in my home town. I think it is so awesome that there is so many women and girls with this name. (Although it kind of takes away the indivuality) I also met the other "Marlise" 2 years ago. Shes also from Alberta and is born in May or early June. We met at a skipping compedtition, by a freaky accident. Our judges called the name "Marlise" and we both stood up and walked to the table from the oppposite side of the gym..it was weird. My best friend came across this website and showed it to me. I'm surprised there are so many Marlises around the world. But it's exciting to see. My mom thought she was being original by cutting up her middle name, which is Marie-Louise, and making Marlise out of it. I feel comforted knowing I'm not the only one who had trouble with the name when I was a kid.

I'm only 12 (almost 13) but I always wondered my name came from. On my 8th birthday, my dad told me he named me after a girl he knew when he was 10. The only thing I discovered about my/our name is that there was a model named Marlies. It feels good to know I'm not the only one with this name. It is pretty, isn't it?

Great and funny this website..i accidently ran in to.. My parents also got the name by putting marie and louise together..I always thought it was a French name..well in this case its dutch..bye bye to all Marlises in the world!!

Hi, my name is Marlies. I am a German native. From what I know about my name is that it was put together from Marie Luise (roughtly translated into Mary Lou). In Germany the other spellings are Marlis, Malis, or Malies. I have not met many Marlieses of any spellings since I have been here.

My name was given to me by my parents who are dutch, but living here in New Zealand , they changed it to the english version so it would be said right.My middle name is my chinese name as I was adopted from there by them (by the way I am only 3 so My mum is writing this).They just loved the name Marlese and always wanted a girl so they could call her that.
