I guess I better tell my story also. I never thought that there were so many Marlise out there. I knew one other lady that I grew up with her son but she spelled Marlies. My mom used my grandmothers middle names Marie and Louise. She wrote each letter on a different piece of paper and mixed them up. I guess she was bored and trying to survive a Alaska winter. :) I guess I at least have my middle name that only a few have.

Thought I might tell you how I got my name: My mother was a highschool teacher in Southern Alberta. She taught a young woman who was Asian-Canadian (Caucasian/Asian mix, like me) and was friends with the girl's mother. After high school the girl was killed in a car accident. She had had a lot of potential-- very bright, very pretty. My mom had named me in her honour. The girl's name was Mary-Anne Clarise.

I've heard our name is French, German, Polish, Dutch, Afrikaans, even Swiss. I've only met two other Marlises: one in Bloomington, IN around 1984 and the other in Cape Town, South Africa in 2002. I've also read lots of the journalist Marlise Simons work. I love having such a unique name!

I'm a Marlise too!! I was born and raised in Southern California. I'm not even sure of the origins of my name. My birth mother was Irish and born in Scotland. I understand I might have been named after a friend. I'm an entertainer and do a lot of traveling around the world. I've only seen my name in parts of Europe. I was searching for Marlise.Com...but it was already taken by another Marlise! Well, that's my story! Marlise
NOTE: In 2008 it's still under construction, along with marlise.net.

I knew I wasn't the only Marlise!!! It's nice to know that there are others with the same name. I was born in 1985, and growing up I had never met anyone with the same name as me. I know that the name, Marlise, originates from the French language. And It's rumoured that there was a Princess or a Queen, in Europe, by the name of Marlise. But if u would like to get in contact with me, please, feel free too.

Hi, my name is Marlise also. I am eighteen years old .I am studying English in university currently. I am trying to figure out what the origin and meaning of the name Marlise is. I have looked everywhere. I found that it is a type of rose and comes from the name Mary. I am not sure how my parents came up with the name but I have only met one other person with the name, and I was like six. I think that the name is very unique and beautiful. Sometimes it gets annoying when people cannot say it right!
We're not nearing the end. . .

Who would have thought there were so many Marlises?! In the 70's, my mom spent a few years living in Taiwan and had a kind Dutch neighbor named Marlies. She thought it was a beautiful name, so when I was born my parents gave me the same one. I later changed the spelling to Marlise. Incidentally, I was in the Netherlands two summers ago and met another Marlise who told me the name is somewhat common in that country.
